Brace yourself; this post is about politics, the only one I will make on this topic in this space. I am the father of a beautiful and amazing little girl who happens to be multicultural. I am the husband to a beautiful woman who happens to be African-American and being of Hispanic descent; I am afraid of our future.
I am afraid of what might happen if Donald Trump wins in November, but I am also afraid of what will happen if he doesn’t. He has made his platform about division, not thru party lines, but thru race, gender, education, and religion. What will happen to my little girl if he wins? What will happen if he doesn’t?
We are living a presidential campaign like no other, a campaign that blames people that hardly have anything to do with the state of the country (e.g. All Muslims, All Mexicans). A campaign that is inciting bigotry, and also incites violence in defense of that bigotry. I am scared.
I’m very afraid, and I keep thinking that the good people of the US will not let this happen. However, I know some of my dear friends are passionate about The Donald, friends that I love, but I don’t understand. And like them, millions are rallying behind a campaign that is based on fear, violence, and bigotry and I am scared.
I’m not afraid of an immigrant taking my job (I am an Immigrant), I’m not afraid of a black person (I am married to one). I’m not afraid of paying my share of taxes, and I’m not afraid of homosexuals, and most importantly I am not afraid of people from other religions.

I am afraid that my daughter will grow in a country where she will do well, but only if she is a 10, I fear that what made this country great, immigrants, will stop coming and innovation will simply stop. I am afraid that my daughter will have fewer opportunities because of the color of her skin or her Latin last name, I fear that as a nation, we will stop caring for the environment and blame the Chinese for global warming. I am afraid of the world we are leaving behind for future generations. I am afraid of what we will do in regards of foreign policy, after all, it is a mess that only he can fix.
I seem that, screaming, inciting violence, mistreating women, making fun of the disabled, cheating our workers, denigrating groups will become the norm. I am afraid of the people that find inspiration from such campaign.
I am afraid that we, the people are the only ones that will be able to stop this madness. Obviously, the people that we have chosen to represent us haven’t done anything to protect us. Vote your conscience somebody said, yet when the time to stand up came he also chose his political career over his own conscience.
I hope that we realize that the direction of our country is in our hands, it is not about voting for HRC, it is about voting to save our children from a culture of fear, racism, and bigotry. You don’t have to like HRC, but we need a sane person in the White House, I am with her.
