One characteristic of resilient individuals is to see opportunities where others see catastrophe. They can reframe things. They see things in a way that changes the way they think and operate.
The great French mathematician Blaise Pascal said:
“Small minds are concerned with the extraordinary, great minds with the ordinary.”
It seems he had in mind something similar, the key to transforming anything lies in our ability to see the ordinary with new eyes, to reframe it.
To change the way we think we must change the way we see is the core message of an HBR article. Apple’s popular tag “Think Different” was obviously very successful, and it is a call to action for all of us to see the world with a different perspective and find better ways to add value to the world.
Martin Luther King said, “I have a dream,” he didn’t say, “I have a problem.”
We should not just observe but examine with a deliberately open mind to appreciate the differences. In the process, we can end up seeing what no one else has yet seen, that is how the future is built.
To act differently, we must think differently. To think differently, we must change the way we see (Luis V)
